Your Venice Wedding Story, Told Through Light and Emotion

Venice has a way of turning everything into poetry. The light reflecting off the canals at golden hour. The sound of water lapping against ancient stone. The quiet intimacy of a hidden courtyard just steps away from the crowds. And somewhere in the middle of all that beauty, you two, choosing each other.

I’m Laure Jacquemin, a Venice wedding photographer. I was born and raised in Belgium, and I’ve spent more than 15 years documenting weddings throughout Venice and the Veneto region, from grand celebrations at Palazzo Cavalli to intimate ceremonies in secret gardens along the canals. The recognition that means the most to me always comes from the couples who trust me with their day.

My approach is a blend of documentary storytelling and fine art. I don’t ask you to perform for the camera. Instead, I create the conditions, the right light, the right moment, the right feeling, where real emotions surface naturally. The result is a collection of photographs that feel true to who you are and true to the magic of this city.

I’ve had the privilege of photographing over 500 weddings in Venice, and every single one reminded me why I fell in love with this work. No two are the same. No two love stories look alike. And that’s exactly what makes this beautiful.

Every couple is welcome here. I photograph love in all its forms, and my studio is proudly inclusive and LGBTQ+ friendly. I’m fluent in french, english and italian.

What to Expect on Your Venice Wedding Day With Me

Planning a destination wedding in Venice is one of the most exciting decisions you’ll make as a couple, and I want every part of the photography experience to feel effortless. Here’s how we’ll work together from the first message to the final delivered gallery.

Before Your Wedding Day

It all starts with a conversation. Once you reach out, we’ll schedule a video call where I get to know your story: how you met, what Venice means to you, the kind of images that make your heart stop. This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s two people talking about love and light and what matters most to you on that day.

From there, I’ll help you build a photography timeline that works with your ceremony, your venue, and the natural light in Venice. If you’re still choosing locations, I’ll share my honest recommendations based on the time of year, the style you’re drawn to, and the hidden corners of this city that most visitors never discover.

For couples traveling from abroad, I also coordinate with your wedding planner to make sure every detail flows smoothly. If you don’t have a planner yet, I’m happy to connect you with some of the best in Venice. Over the years I’ve built strong relationships with planners, florists, makeup artists, hair stylists, and celebrants across the city, and I only recommend vendors I have personally worked with and trust.

On Your Wedding Day

On the day itself, I arrive early. I like to feel the energy of the space before anyone else walks in. I photograph the details first: the dress, the rings, the handwritten vows, the flowers. These small things carry enormous emotional weight when you look back on them months and years later.

My style during the ceremony and reception is unobtrusive and documentary. I move quietly, I anticipate moments before they happen, and I never interrupt what’s real. You won’t hear me giving directions during your vows. You won’t see me stepping between you and your guests. What you will see, later, is that I captured the tear your mother tried to hide, the look your partner gave you when they thought no one was watching, and the laughter that erupted when the best man’s speech went gloriously off-script.

For portraits, we’ll carve out dedicated time, usually around golden hour, to walk through Venice together. This is where the city becomes your personal backdrop and the images take on that quality that only Venice can give. I know the light patterns in every season and every neighborhood. I’ll guide you to the quiet spots where the crowds thin out, the reflections glow, and the magic amplifies.

If your wedding includes a second shooter, they’ll cover the candid moments and guest reactions while I stay focused on you. Every couple is different, and I adapt my coverage accordingly, whether your celebration is a grand 150-person reception at a luxury Venetian palazzo or a ceremony for just the two of you beside a canal.

After Your Wedding Day

Within 3 weeks, your complete gallery is delivered through a private online viewing room. Every image is individually edited with my signature style: clean, luminous, and true to the warmth of the moment. I never outsource my editing and I never use generic presets. Each photograph is crafted with the same care I brought to capturing it.

You’ll receive 70 or more finished photographs from a full wedding day. From there, you can choose your favorites for prints, albums, or wall art. I work with some of the finest album craftsmen in Italy, and I’ll guide you through the design process to create an heirloom keepsake that feels worthy of the day it represents.

Your images are yours to keep, share, and print forever. Full resolution files, no watermarks, no restrictions.

The Best Venice Wedding Venues and Locations

One of the greatest privileges of working as a wedding photographer in Venice is the sheer variety of extraordinary settings available to you. Over the years, I’ve photographed ceremonies and receptions across dozens of venues, and I’ve developed strong opinions about which ones photograph best, in which seasons, and at which times of day.

Here’s an insider look at some of Venice’s most remarkable wedding locations.

Civil Ceremony Venues

Palazzo Cavalli is the official civil wedding hall of Venice, and it’s stunning. Located directly on the Grand Canal with a privileged view of the Rialto Bridge, the interior rooms feature Renaissance frescoes and dramatic natural light pouring in from tall windows. Photographically, the combination of canal reflections and historic architecture creates images that feel timeless. The ceremony rooms are intimate, which makes even a small civil wedding feel grand and emotional.

Ca’ Vendramin Calergi, home to the Venice Casino, offers larger ceremony rooms with ornate ceilings and a waterfront terrace. It’s ideal for couples who want a sense of grandeur and more space for guests. The light inside is more controlled, so I often recommend scheduling portraits before or after the ceremony when we can use the exterior loggia overlooking the canal.

For couples looking for something more private, several historic palazzi along the Grand Canal now host civil ceremonies by arrangement with the Comune di Venezia.

Religious Ceremony Venues

For Catholic ceremonies, Santa Maria dei Miracoli is the jewel of Venice. It’s a small, perfectly proportioned Renaissance church clad entirely in marble, and the interior light is soft, warm, and incredibly flattering for photography. Chiesa di San Zaccaria offers a more dramatic atmosphere with its mix of Gothic and Renaissance elements and deep afternoon light. And while Basilica di San Marco is the most iconic church in Venice, it comes with significant restrictions on photography, something to discuss early in the planning process.

Venice also accommodates Protestant, Orthodox, Jewish, and Armenian rites. Each tradition has preferred churches and celebrants, and I’ve photographed ceremonies in most of them. Whatever your faith or tradition, I approach every ceremony with deep respect and discretion.

Symbolic Ceremony Locations

If you’re not bound by legal or religious requirements, Venice opens up completely. I’ve photographed symbolic weddings on private rooftop terraces with panoramic lagoon views, in the sculpture gardens of boutique hotels, aboard a historic Venetian galleon floating through the canals, and even on the island of Burano with its candy-colored houses creating a vibrant, joyful backdrop.

Symbolic ceremonies give you complete creative freedom, and they often produce the most visually striking wedding photography because we can choose the location entirely based on beauty, light, and privacy. If this is the path you’re drawn to, I’ll help you find a setting that feels uniquely yours.

The Most Photogenic Spots in Venice for Wedding Portraits

After the ceremony, this is where Venice truly becomes the star. Here are the locations I return to again and again because the light and composition never disappoint.

Ponte dei Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs) is best at dawn or dusk when the crowds disappear. The arched bridge frames couples beautifully, and the narrow canal below acts as a natural reflector, casting soft light upward onto your faces.

The Rialto Bridge area offers extraordinary opportunities, not on the bridge itself (too crowded), but from the small fondamenta below, where the Grand Canal opens up and the light bounces off the water in ways that make every frame glow.

Dorsoduro back streets are my personal favorite neighborhood for Venice wedding portraits. Quiet, residential, full of texture: peeling plaster, vine-covered walls, wrought-iron balconies. This is the most authentic Venice you’ll find, far from the tourist paths.

San Giorgio Maggiore island is a short vaporetto ride away, with an uninterrupted view of the entire Venice skyline. The light here at sunset is extraordinary, and you’ll often have the waterfront almost entirely to yourselves.

Burano, if your timeline allows, is a colorful fishing village that makes for joyful, vibrant portraits. The pastel facades create images that feel completely different from the rest of your Venice wedding gallery.

I always scout locations in advance and adjust my recommendations based on the season, time of day, and your personal style. No two portrait sessions in Venice look the same, and that’s exactly the point.

Frequently Asked Questions About Venice Weddings

My wedding photography in Venice typically ranges from €400 to €2600, depending on the hours of coverage, the number of photographers, and whether extras sessions are included.

Each season in Venice offers something different for wedding photography.

Spring (April to June) brings soft light, blooming wisteria along the canals, and comfortable temperatures. It’s the most popular season for Venice weddings and for good reason.

Autumn (September to November) is my personal favorite. The light turns golden, the summer crowds thin out, and the occasional morning mist over the canals creates images with a dreamlike, cinematic atmosphere.

Summer (July and August) is warm and vibrant, but Venice is at its most crowded. If you choose summer, I’ll plan your portrait time for early morning or late evening when the streets empty and the light is at its most beautiful.

Winter (December to February) is the most intimate season. Venice feels like it belongs only to you. The famous acqua alta (high water) adds a dramatic, otherworldly quality to the images, and the low winter sun creates long, painterly shadows across the piazzas.

For casual couple portraits in public spaces, no permit is generally needed. However, professional photography in certain areas, particularly Piazza San Marco and inside churches, may require advance authorization from the relevant authorities. I handle all permit research and coordination for my clients, so you don’t need to worry about any of these logistics on your wedding day.

Not necessarily. In Venice, short portrait windows can be more effective than a long session because light and crowds change quickly. A compact plan often produces cleaner backgrounds and more consistent light. If you want more variety, adding a second short window later in the day can work better than extending one long session, especially when guests and logistics are involved.

Boats can be beautiful, but they add variables: boarding time, docks, wind, and traffic. They work best when they fit naturally into your day’s movement and when the light is soft. If the schedule is tight, a walking plan can produce stronger results with less stress. The decision depends on your priorities: iconic imagery, privacy, time with guests, or comfort.

Light and space matter more than décor alone. Large windows, uncluttered areas, and enough room to move make a major difference. Consider whether the room has consistent daylight, whether the corridor and lobby allow quick portraits, and whether dock access is straightforward if you plan a boat transition. A photo-friendly room reduces stress and improves the first part of your story.

Consistency comes from both capture choices and post-production. On the day, I adapt to light shifts by choosing angles that protect skin tones and dress detail. In editing, I apply cohesive color work and refined retouching so the story feels unified even when locations change from open water to narrow alleys or interiors. The goal is a timeless, coherent atmosphere.

Working with a local professional ensures full control of light, timing, access, and realistic planning.

Start by choosing your ceremony type: civil, religious, or symbolic. This determines your venue options and the legal requirements involved. From there, I strongly recommend hiring a local Venice wedding planner. They handle the legal paperwork, vendor coordination, and logistical details that can be complex when planning from abroad.

I work closely with several outstanding planners in Venice, and I’m happy to make introductions based on your style and budget. Most couples begin planning their Venice wedding 12 to 18 months in advance, though intimate celebrations can come together in as few as 3 to 6 months.

Absolutely. Over the years, I’ve built a trusted network of the best Venice wedding planners, florists, makeup artists, hair stylists, celebrants, and venue managers. After we connect and I understand your vision, I’ll share personalized recommendations. Not a generic vendor list, but the specific professionals I believe will be the best fit for your celebration, your style, and your budget.

For peak season weddings (May through October), I recommend reaching out 12 to 18 months before your date. I limit myself to [X] weddings per year to ensure every couple receives my full energy and attention, and the most popular dates fill up well in advance. For off-season weddings, 6 to 9 months is usually sufficient. But the sooner we connect, the more time we have to plan something exceptional together.

Yes. While Venice is my home base and my primary focus, I regularly photograph weddings throughout the Veneto region and across Italy, including Lake Garda, Verona, the Dolomites, Tuscany, Lake Como, and the Amalfi Coast. I also love destination weddings beyond Italy. If your dream location is somewhere else entirely, let’s talk about it.

My style sits at the intersection of fine art and documentary photography. I capture the day as it unfolds, without heavy posing or artificial setups, while bringing a refined artistic eye to every composition. The result is images that are elegant and emotional, honest and timeless. I believe the best wedding photographs don’t just show what happened. They make you feel what it was like to be there.
